The Vibration Meter monitors vibrations by using the sensors of your device on each of three axes. X, Y and Z are used to show earthquake vibrations. A seismic scale that measures the strength of earthquakes is called Mercalli intensity. This scale measures earthquake effects. When measuring the effects of an earthquake, Vibration Meter is also known as seismograph (or seismometer). Specific directions can be switched off to get more precise readings.

Mercalli intensity scale:

I. Instrumental - Not felt. Seismographs recorded.

II. Feeling weak - Only felt on the top floors in high-rise buildings.

III. Light - Feel indoors as if you are passing a light truck.

IV. Moderate - Windows doors rattle. As a passing train.

V. Rather strong - Feeled by everyone. Small items can be upset.

VI. Strong Books from the shelves Trees can shake. Damage.

VII. Very strong - difficult to hold. Buildings damaged.

VIII. Destructive - Significant damage. Trees broken.

IX. Violent - General panic. Serious damage. Cracks.

X. Intense - Most buildings destroyed. Rails bent.

XI. Rails severely bent. Extreme Pipelines destroyed.

XII. Catastrophic-Near total damage.

Some countries prefer Richter scale to Mercalli. Richter scale, a logarithmic base-10 scale that defines magnitude is the logarithm for the ratio between the amplitude seismic waves and an arbitrarily small amplitude.
